Jedmed now sells the Horus Scope, a handheld video scope with multiple imaging attachments and a built-in display that is manufactured by Medimaging Integrated Solutions, Inc.  This product appears to capitalize on multiple trends within the video scope industry, including a handheld form factor, integrated LED lighting, and interchangeable attachments for use in multiple clinical settings.  Jedmed is the exclusive distributor for this product.

Horus Scope is comprised of three primary elements—a scope handle with multiple controls and built-in LCD display, specialty lens attachments, and a charging dock.  The scope handle is a cable-free device containing rear-facing controls for switching between video and still image modes, changing brightness levels, and activating the menu.  A thumb-operated joystick simplifies navigating the menu and image review screens.  There is also a front-facing rotary dial that makes one-handed refocusing quite easy in the course of performing an assessment.  There are two ports on the bottom of the device, one each for USB and composite-video connections.

The specialty lens attachments include a fundus scope, dermascope, otoscope, general exam scope, and anterior chamber.  The lenses' modular nature allows a clinic to purchase the equipment that they need incrementally, with the option to expand to other lenses as clinical need dictates.

The charging dock provides both power and data transfer abilities, with a single USB cable that connects to two USB ports on a host computer.  The scope handle rests at a slight angle in the dock, with a mini USB plug at the bottom of the dock connecting to the handle.

High definition (1920x1080) images and video are stored to a microSD card (included), which can then be transferred to a computer either through the USB connection or via a card reader.  Component video (640x480) can be sent out via the included A/V port in the bottom of the unit, which can then be sent to a computer or videoconferencing platform for capture and/or live display.

The display on the unit allows for clinicians to keep their eyes on their hands and the patient while imaging, as opposed to other solutions that require the clinician to look at a separate monitor while conducting an evaluation.  All in all, this is an innovative combination of a host of trends in the video scope market and is a promising development for those interested in lower-cost, portable solutions.
