HIMSS 2023 Technology Trends
Calvin and Jordan recently attended the HIMMS 2023 conference in Chicago, IL. We saw hundreds of vendors with a focus on every area of IT in Healthcare. While navigating the large vendor floor space, some common trends in Telehealth and Medical Technology stood out. Most of the technologies are currently on the market, and others are in the midst of seeking FDA approval.
The first trend we noted was in the AI enhancement of current Telehealth technologies. We noted several different AI-enhanced products within the following specialties:
-
Dermatology – DermEngine DemSpot
-
Diabetic Retinopathy – LumineticsCore, Medios Glaucoma
-
Remote Patient Monitoring: Waire remote health monitor, and TytoCare Wheeze Detection Tyto In sights for Wheeze Detection
-
Cardiology Eko | Sensora
These technologies were focused on advanced screening and diagnostic assistance. These tools will help providers conduct diagnostic and remote screenings. As AI becomes more advanced, these tools will be used to optimize treatment options.
Another trend that we have noticed is the advancement of Software as a Medical Device in the form of apps for smartphones. These apps utilize the existing hardware found in modern smartphones for remote screenings of patients. While many of these apps are still pending FDA approval, they do have interesting implications regarding patients self-monitoring health trends or self-screening to see if follow-up is warranted. Two examples of these SaMD (Software as a Medical Device) unitizing smartphones are Cardio Signal and NuraLogix.
The final trend that we have noticed comes in the form of advanced sensors and cameras that can perform vitals for patients without any form of physical contact. Home Norbert Health is an emerging product in this space. This device can be mounted in a patient’s room to do vitals monitoring from within the patient’s room. Norbi Nobi smart lamps are another device that can be used for fall detection and prevention integrating touchless vitals.
These are just a few of the many developing technologies that were at HIMMS 2023. For questions about new technologies or their applications, please contact us through our web form: Request Technical Assistance
