The oral frontal view shot is an example of a macro shot due to the subject size and distance necessary to frame the shot. The oral frontal image should display the true color of the oral cavity, the gums, and the teeth. The camera should be able to handle the external light source without discoloring the teeth based on the external light color. Acceptable depth of field in this image can vary based on the image you wish to obtain and the focal plane you were attempting to capture. Due to the size of the subject matter, and depending on the focal range of the lens being used, the depth of field and focal area may be limited in this shot. Detail in the teeth and gums should be clear. There shouldn't be distortions in teeth shape or oral-cavity shape. The image should be free of specular highlights and reflections on the teeth. This shot is obtained with the camera parallel to the frontal plane of the oral frontal and the camera height at the same level as the focal point.
