The eye anterior-posterior shot is a classic example of a macro shot. Using a macro lens is most ideal for this shot. The macro lens allows the camera to be close enough to the subject to capture an appropriate representation of the subject at approximately a 1:1 magnification level. The eye image should display the true color of the iris, sclera, conjunctiva, visible blood vessels, and the surrounding skin and hair. Acceptable depth of field in this image should allow for focused ocular features, surrounding skin and hair. Relief between the globe of the eye and the surrounding eyelid should also be able to be appreciated. The image should be free of artificial shadows and have even lighting. Reflections from external light sources may be visible on the surface of the eye in this particular shot set up and can be corrected with alternative shot setups as clinically necessary. This shot is best obtained with the camera parallel to the frontal plane of the eye and the camera height at the same level as the focal point.
