The following images were captured by the TTAC in the course of evaluating each of the patient exam cameras. The video output of each device was routed into a VCE Pro PCMCIA framegrabber, which allowed the capture of a 640×480 pixel image. This is the same resolution image that would be transmitted via videoconference if any of the devices were connected to the S-Video or Composite input on a hardware codec.
The following images are available:
Additionally, the TTAC wanted to compare the image review functions of camcorders and digital cameras to the image “freeze” capabilities of more traditional patient exam cameras, such as the AMD 2500 and GlobalMedia TotalExam cameras. It was discovered that the cameras from AMD and Global Media provided a convenient, easy-to-use mechanism for creating a still image, while camcorders and digital cameras required additional steps to capture, review, display, and zoom-in on acquired images. Those additional steps, while potentially cumbersome, did allow for impressive levels of detail to be reviewed. The images, as above, were captured at 640×480 resolution.
